A Little Study of the 7 Thunders

Chapter 2

The Plan

Why so many prophecies?

So God had a plan. I can't possibly understand or even know all of it, but here are some viewpoints:

  • He created mankind to be loved by Him and to, in turn, love Him.
  • He did not want to force us to "love" Him, but to really love Him voluntarily because we know He loves us.
  • He did not expect us to be perfect, He knew we would sin.
  • He planned to send His Son, Jesus to be our Savior. He even referred to it in Genesis.
  • But we need to recognize that Jesus is His Son.
  • He used Prophecies to prove that Jesus is His Son, the Christ, our Savior and Messiah.
  • Some of those Prophecies would be fulfilled by Jesus being a descendant of King David.
  • So God established the Kingdom of Israel to create and protect that bloodline.
  • He had those Prophecies written down and collected into a single volume: the Holy Scriptures (well for Christians, we call it the Old Testament).
  • So God established Scribes in the Kingdom of Isreal to painstakingly copy those prophecies without errors.

So the whole reason for Israel as God's chosen people was to ensure that ultimately All Mankind would know that Jesus is the Son of God, their Messiah. And the proof was in the prophecies!

This is not to diminish the value of our Lord's miracles while on Earth. They clearly make Him stand out and be noticed. And they were a blessing to many. But other prophets and men of God have done miracles. And even Jesus, Himself, said that we would do greater miracles than the ones He did. I'm not sure how that happens, but I think it makes it clear that it's not the miracles that are the proof, but rather the prophecies.
