29 Do not rejoice, all you Philistines, that the rod that struck you is broken. For a viper will spring from the root of the snake, and a flying serpent from its egg.

For
צֶ֔פַע
ṣe·p̄a‘
a viper
יֵ֣צֵא
yê·ṣê
will spring
מִשֹּׁ֤רֶשׁ
miš·šō·reš
from the root
נָחָשׁ֙
nā·ḥāš
of the snake ,
מְעוֹפֵֽף׃
mə·‘ō·w·p̄êp̄
and a flying
שָׂרָ֥ף
śā·rāp̄
serpent
וּפִרְי֖וֹ
ū·p̄ir·yōw
from its egg .
30 Then the firstborn of the poor will find pasture, and the needy will lie down in safety, but I will kill your root by famine, and your remnant will be slain.

Then the firstborn
דַלִּ֔ים
ḏal·lîm
of the poor
וְרָעוּ֙
wə·rā·‘ū
will find pasture ,
וְאֶבְיוֹנִ֖ים
wə·’eḇ·yō·w·nîm
and the needy
יִרְבָּ֑צוּ
yir·bā·ṣū
will lie down
לָבֶ֣טַח
lā·ḇe·ṭaḥ
in safety ,
וְהֵמַתִּ֤י
wə·hê·mat·tî
but I will kill
שָׁרְשֵׁ֔ךְ
šā·rə·šêḵ
your root
בָֽרָעָב֙
ḇā·rā·‘āḇ
by famine ,
וּשְׁאֵרִיתֵ֖ךְ
ū·šə·’ê·rî·ṯêḵ
and your remnant
יַהֲרֹֽג׃
ya·hă·rōḡ
will be slain .
31 Wail, O gate! Cry out, O city! Melt away, all you Philistines! For a cloud of smoke comes from the north, and there are no stragglers in its ranks.

a cloud of smoke

comes
מִצָּפוֹן֙
miṣ·ṣā·p̄ō·wn
from the north ,
וְאֵ֥ין
wə·’ên
and there are no
בּוֹדֵ֖ד
bō·w·ḏêḏ
stragglers
בְּמוֹעָדָֽיו׃
bə·mō·w·‘ā·ḏāw
in its ranks .
32 What answer will be given to the envoys of that nation? “The LORD has founded Zion, where His afflicted people will find refuge.”
